Incompetent or Best Tensile Fabric Structures Company

How do you differentiate the best tensile fabric specialist with the incompetent one? Given all the information and visual representation of what you need in a tensile fabric structure, it is still hard to evaluate which one is better than the other, and which one is legitimate and not. Often times some contractors are very good at project bidding but not really at the top of their game or even doing good in designing and installing tensile fabric structures. What makes it even more worse, they work beyond their comfort zone.

Choosing an incompetent tensile fabric specialist possesses a high risk on your structure and can greatly impact the project as a whole. Working with unqualified design engineer and architect may give you a stunning design can make you think that you got yourself a great deal of a contractor. But in reality, the design itself is a hoax and may not work in the engineering and materials limitation and may have even failed all series of structural tests such as finite element analysis, load analysis, form finding and many others. Incompetent contractors can even give you construction materials or claim to be equalvalent materials with much lower price that have not undergone quality control and test of time. Another problem you may face once the project fails is that the company you hired may not agree to redo the project after it is completely turned over. This will double your expenses by correcting the error than making everything right from the start. Some providing an incomplete scope of work  and costing with many exclusion of work in order to provide a false impression of low price.

Now, how do you know if the tensile fabric specialist is not qualified to do your project?

Accomplished Projects – An incompetent specialist may not have a proven record of a finished project, or if they did, it can be a structure that have not passed any quality standard. Pay attention to those contractors who takes credit on other’s work and accomplishments. You may not want to deal with a contractor that steals ideas from others. Chances are, your design and ideas will end up on another client.

Giving Extra Mile – Experienced and thrust-worthy tensile fabric specialists may even give you better suggestions to make the project even more successful without adding further cost by doing value engineering in tensile fabric design. This shows how dedicated they are with their work and values their clients. Incompetent contractors does not carry this principle at all.

Does Not Go for Options – Does your contractor just offers you a standard tensile membrane structure design ? Or automatic statements of safety? This may mean that they have not weighed their options and practiced a detailed methodology or risk assessment in the execution of tensile fabric structure. You would know if you pay closer to the details of their proposal.

Standard Price for All Projects – Incompetent tensile fabric specialists have standard price for small-scale and large structural projects. Only one estimator presents the price and just have all the departments from design, fabrication and manufacturing, installation and maintenance to have their budgets adapt to the standard price provided, never consider the complexity of design, fabrication and installation.

Strong Team – Experienced tensile fabric specialists comes with key-persons from each department from engineer, designer, project manager and rigger. They all sit down with you to present all the details, project expectations and everything you need to know to get the project done with quality in tensile fabric structure.

We carefully study the location and height where it will be installed and see if it is vulnerable with vandalism.

How Long Can a Tensile Membrane Structure Last?

A lifespan of a tensile membrane structure is dependent on the budget of the project. The budget determines what design and materials are needed for the construction of the tensile membrane structure. For instance on fabric roof systems, there are several fabric types with corresponding lifespan. Silicon coated glass fibre fabrics and ETFE, PTFE fabrics, PVC coated with PVDF fabrics can make it from 20 to 50 years. Some PVC and HDPE Shade Cloth  fabric on the other hand can make it 5 years to 15 years. You can check a full list of fabric types and characteristics on TE Membrane Material Comparison Table.

The budget is the key on how long a tensile structure will last. If the budget is too tight, materials with lesser quality is an option. Some companies tend to go for cheaper materials which may not last longer than expected and compromise the technical requirement of the fabrics.

What Tensile Fabric Construction Codes Do You Follow?

Yes, TE Membrane follows Australian Lightweight Tensile Structure Guidelines & Codes. Our membrane engineering comply with the British Standard Codes to strictly address wind, rain and snow loads tackled under BS 6399 sections 2 and 3. For every structure we design and install, we follow these guidelines to ensure that all structures meet safety loadings. Therefore, our team of designers, architects and structural engineers performs a series of tests and calculations for data analysis to come up with the best design option which can perform in under various climate conditions and works well with the geographic area where the tensile fabric structure will be built in the world. The final analysis result should be in accordance with the construction codes which should be visible in all paperwork.

Not every tensile fabric specialist follows this strict guidelines. Hence, prior to designing the tensile structure, discuss every detail of the location where the structure will be installed such as weather conditions and changes every year and other climate occurrences the structure may face once it is up. This is will help you choose the right material such as fabric to resist the climate conditions and will ensure safety and practical application of the fabric structure.

Are Tensile Membrane Structures Expensive?

The answer is no. In fact, tensile membrane structures is the best architectural solution ever discovered nowadays. It is the future of architectural structures. Compared to common roof systems such as glass, tensile architectural structures can save you half the material cost together with the fabrication of for the framework and construction time cost. Tensile fabric structures are also known for fast and easy installation. Hence, it can help you with reducing your over-all project cost.

Lifespan

  •  Fabric roofing has average lifespan of more than 35 years. But the advantage is, re-skinning and upgrading the fabric whenever necessary can cut down cots if you will have to re-build and and replacement purposes.

Absolute Architectural Solution

  •  Tensile fabrics are effective with building upgrades or converting an empty space into something useful, easy to match new and old building architecture and with tensile fabrics, possibilities are endless!

Introduction to Tensile Fabric Structure Design Concept

One of the most flexible free-form building are fabric structures. Its lightweight characteristic offers immense variety of building application & design. Tensile fabric structure is a type of tensile membrane structure. Membrane structures can be free form structures and are dependent on curvatures to distribute load evenly in tensioned stat.

Some common roof system failures are inability to withstand or carry load such as amount of wind, rain and snow. Removing deflection from wind, rain and snow from roofs is more dangerous than efficient. Hence, fabric structures were developed to have double curves on tensioned membrane structures to carry the weight or load of the wind, snow and rainfall.

There are several basic forms and types of tensioned membrane structures. Namely anticlastic and synclastic structure. Anticlastic is pure tensioned structure that can be seen in most cone, sail and arch design. Synclastic is air supported structure with air in between create a pillow like structure.

(1)Anticlastic structure -Tensioned Membrane Structure

a) Hypar Sail Design

Paraboloids have surface divided in quadrants. Hyperbolic paraboloid looks like a saddle where the surface has high and low points. It is a form of anticlastic tensioned membrane. In the design of fabric structures, a hypar or saddle shape offers stability. Hypars normally have two high and two low points opposing each other. These points resists wind flow that lifts the fabric.

b) Cone Design

Another type of anticlastic are the cone and arch forms. These are popular and mostly used in canopies and other roof membranes. The cone can also be an inverted conical.

c) Arch Design

The most common type of fabric roof is the arch-shaped fabric structure. Arch shapes generate by bending the steel frame profile in order for the membrane fabric to wrap around to form a barrel vault structure.
(2) Synclastic Structure – Inflatable or Air Dome Shape

A type of synclastic structure is the inflatable or dome-shaped forms. Constant pressure of air helps to give the fabric its balloon shape which shows double curvature as well. It is normally installed over sports-complex, gardens and etc where large span is required.

Tensioned fabric structure is commonly built with a combination of two or three forms and shapes. Building it from a modular unit to form more complex combination solution in tensile fabric design.

Tensile fabric architecture is the design of fabric material roofing that form freely with the minimum support structure where tension is applied. All materials used in the installation of fabric structures are all subjected to details design & engineering in tensile fabric structure.

Architects/designers and engineers find various challenges when it comes to developing new styles and forms to better suit the need of roofing systems. Each design should address pre-stress conditions to ensure the integrity and stability of the fabric structure. Equal distribution of fabric load over each membrane is the key to a perfect and reliable roofing system.
